Digital timepieces are virtual newcomers in the history of watches
and have been around for less than half a century. Watches entered the
digital age in 1972, when the Hamilton Pulsar watch was introduced. With
an 18K gold case and red digital dial, this revolutionary timepiece
cost over $2,000…an exorbitant amount at the time.
The Pulsar digital watch was highly coveted when it was introduced
and even American President Gerald Ford had to have one in 1974, when he
started in office.
In 1973, Seiko introduced an LCD digital watch with a stainless steel
case at a less expensive price point. Meanwhile, Texas Instruments
introduced digital watches with plastic cases at a retail cost of $20 in
1975. The latter caused Pulsar lose millions of dollars in revenue at
the time and resulted in the company being sold to Seiko in 1976.
Digital watch technology become more advanced heading into the 1980s
as more brands started to produce LCD digital timepieces, including
Casio, Citizen and Timex. These timepieces not only told time, many had
stop-watch
and chronograph functions too.voir plus copies de montre etCartier Montre
